Back for an encore performance with us, Ava Pakiam (called “a rising star” by San Francisco Classical Voice) will play the boldly spectacular Brahms violin concerto. If you missed Ava with us in 2023, don’t miss her in 2024! This is your chance to hear—up close and personal—a violinist who will no doubt be commanding the stage in concert houses around the world. And she’s just 14!
We'll also play the symphonic poem Andromède by Augusta Holmès, part of our women composers series. Like other female composers in the 19th century (Fanny Mendelssohn, Clara Schumann) Holmès published some of her earlier works under a male pseudonym because women then just weren’t taken seriously as artists. We take her seriously! Andromède is her rumination on love, happiness, despair and isolation.
Come at 2:40pm for a per-concert talk by music director Eric Hansen (we can't be held responsible for bad jokes). We're family friendly and fully accessible. Tickets are free, but required (see link) and donations are gratefully accepted.
