The Second Sunday Basilica Series for March features JUDY HUNG, violin, harpsichord and piano, along with guest artist, Shihyun Liao, sheng player in music of Bach, Scarlatti, Telemann, Rameau and others.  

Taiwanese-Canadian musician Judy Hung enjoys a versatile career as a violinist, pianist, violoncellist da spalla, artistic director, and teacher. She has appeared in solo, chamber, and orchestral concerts across the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Scotland, China, Malaysia, Taiwan, and the USA.

Passionate about Historically Informed Performance (HIP), Judy's recent releases include Essence Baroque (2022), recorded on Baroque violin and harpsichord, and Essence Romantique (2023), featuring 19th-century historical pianos. She has collaborated on numerous projects with ensembles including Formosa Baroque (Taiwan), Le Concert Français (France), Clavecin en Concert, Ottawa Baroque Consort, Orchestre Galileo, and Ensemble Caprice (Canada).

A committed advocate for community engagement through music, Judy founded L’Orchestre symphonique des jeunes de Vaudreuil-Soulanges and Les Concerts Valois. She also serves as music director and organist at Valois United Church and as a collaborative pianist at McGill University. She was a violin faculty member at the McGill Conservatory of Music from 2010 to 2022.

Judy holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Violin Performance with an Orchestral Conducting minor from Louisiana State University. She also earned Master’s degrees in Violin, Piano, and Early Music Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Syracuse University, and McGill University, respectively.

Funded by the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, Judy's current projects include research on the violoncello da spalla, a 2025 USA recital tour, and the creation of an upcoming album, Essence Classique, featuring Classical violin, fortepiano, and violoncello da spalla.
