KONTRAPUNKTUS returns this March for four dates only with its newest classical production, “IL NUOVO ORFEO: The Legacy of Arcangelo Corelli.” This season will feature the remarkable talent of soloist, Aubree Oliverson.
Before there was Vivaldi, there was a remarkable Italian composer and violinist whose name was synonymous with music throughout all of Europe in the late 17th and early 18th century. He not only invented the Italian violin technique that brought the melodic complexities of the instrument to the forefront of chamber music, but he used this technique to master the concerto grosso. Today, he’s historically recognized as the “Father of the Modern Violin Technique,” and his influence changed Western popular music forever. This man was Arcangelo Corelli.
Our newest classical production we will be presenting this March is an homage to Corelli. Besides featuring one of his beloved pieces, we will also be performing exquisite works from several composers who either studied under Corelli or composed opuses in his honor. These composers include George Frideric Handel, Jean-Baptiste Barrière, Francesco Geminiani, Jean-Marie Leclair, and Antonio Vivaldi.
