Colburn Orchestra: Debussy’s La mer

Presented by The Colburn School

Lidiya Yankovskaya, Conductor
Eugene Lin, Cello

Immerse yourself in musical imagery that paints vivid pictures of literature and life. First up, the journey of errant knight Don Quixote and his sidekick is depicted through solo instruments in Strauss’s tone poem of the same name. Debussy brings an undulating seascape to life with atmospheric melodies in his famous La mer. Between these two works, a Renee Esmail piece uses a unique oboe duet to capture the uncertainty felt when musicians returned to the concert hall in 2021.

Learn more about the evening’s program during a special pre-concert talk moderated by Alan Chapman starting at 6 pm.
