Program Notes
Arthur Omura's Program:
Rameau's Kondiaronk in Paris
War has a way of making strange allies. For instance, in the 17th and 18th centuries, France was engaged in a series of wars with and against several Native American tribes in the Great Lakes region, and the peoples of the Americas were considered deeply fascinating. Their philosophy, in particular, captured the imagination of Enlightenment France, specifically their dedication to equality and to democratic participation in politics. The composer Jean-Philippe Rameau was so impressed by the Americans he wrote an opera about them. This program is made up of a harpsichord transcription Rameau made of that Opera.
Heeguen Song's Program:
Bach sonata for solo violin No.1 in g minor
Vitali Chaconne in g minor for violin and piano, accompanied by Arthur Omura on harpsichord
William Cayanan's Program:
Giovanni Gabrieli - Ricercar no.5 in D; Ricercar no.1 in G; Ricercar no.3 in C; Ricercar no. 2
Jean-Zevalt Triemer, Sonata in C, accompanied by Arthur Omura on harpsichord:
I. Largo
II. Allegro
III. Cantabile
IV. Tempo di Gavotta
V. Giga Allegro
