In concert together for the first time, violinist Nikki Chooi and pianist Hilda Huang will perform the music of Bach, Mozart, Liszt, Ravel and Corigliano in the intimate setting of Noe Valley Ministry. Celebrate midsummer with two extraordinary masters of their instruments!
A laureate of the Ross McKee Piano Competition, Hilda is a favorite among Bay Area audiences as a modern performer of historical music. Through dedicating her career to music by J.S. Bach, she brings together traditions of performance on piano and harpsichord. As a young artist, Hilda's association with Bach's music was shared in the documentary film Bach and Friends alongside Hilary Hahn, Bobby McFerrin, and the Emerson String Quartet. Her work has earned international acclaim with the distinction of first prize at the Leipzig International Bach competition and appearances at the Leipzig and Montreal Bach Festivals.
Praised for his powerful and poetic performances, internationally-acclaimed violinist Nikki Chooi has established himself as an artist of rare versatility. Described as "expressive, enchanting, and transcendent," Nikki is a Laureate of the Queen Elizabeth and Tchaikovsky Competitions, and was awarded 1st Prize at the Montreal Symphony's ManuLife Competition, the Klein String Competition, and the Michael Hill International Violin Competition. Currently concertmaster of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra under Music Director JoAnn Falletta, he previously served as Concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
