From the Old World to the New: String Quartets in America

Presented by Benicia Chamber Players

Benicia Chamber Players presents its second concert of the 2024-2025 season, “From the Old World to the New: String Quartets in America,” in November. The program features Dvořák’s beloved "American"String Quartet, written during his stay in Spillville, Iowa, where he was inspired by American folk melodies and the local Bohemian community. Also featured is the dramatic and lyrical B minor String Quartet by Teresa Carreño, a virtuoso pianist and composer famously known as the “Valkyrie of the Piano.” The program includes William Bolcom’s Three Rags, a lively tribute to the ragtime era and the music of Scott Joplin. Join us in celebrating composers who were inspired by the rich musical traditions of America!
