SFCV Presents: The Virtual Greenroom With Will Liverman

On March 29, 2023, baritone Will Liverman joined music journalist Steven Winn via Zoom in SFCV’s interview series. With his superb acting and singing, Liverman would have been a star regardless, but his boundless energy and curiosity has just multiplied his presence on the world stage since his breakout in 2019, when he appeared as Papageno at the Metropolitan Opera and won a Richard Tucker Career Grant and the Sphinx Medal of Excellence.

At the time of this interview, Liverman was starring as Pelléas in LA Opera’s production of Pelléas et Mélisande. He was also fresh off the world premiere of Factotum at Lyric Opera of Chicago, which he co-wrote and starred in and which garnered enthusiastic reviews. Of course, he also made waves starring in the Met premiere of Terence Blanchard’s Fire Shut Up in My Bones. His 2021 recording Dreams of a New Day (Cedille Records) garnered a Grammy nomination and critical acclaim as well as being a bestseller.
