Pia Siegwart, a native from Switzerland, holds an equivalent of a master's degree in piano and piano pedagogy from the conservatory in Luzern, Switzerland. For over 28 years, she has taught individual and group piano lessons to children and adults at several music schools in Switzerland. Since 2002 she maintains a private studio at her home in Berkeley and teaches at CCMC, Berkeley. She enjoys teaching students of all ages and backgrounds.
The activities in this class train the body to solve musical problems leading to the improvement of the student’s performance and retention of musical fundamentals. In this class, music directs students. They have to respond quickly to what they hear and express them through body movements. This will greatly increase listening and coordination skills, which are vital in the mastery of any musical instrument. Music theory is also integrated in this class together with solfege and improvisation.
Individual lessons are offered to those who want undivided attention to learn and deepen their understanding of music. In this program, students will receive individual instruction about technical skills and appreciation of music on their chosen instrument and in voice using Ms. Anna Poklewski’s unique philosophy of teaching. The objective of one-on-one music lessons with your music teacher is to focus on the fundamental of techniques, musical expression, and performance. Music lessons are available for piano, violin, cello, clarinet, flute, voice, guitar, saxophone, jazz, composition and others.
The most important thing I bring to a piano lesson is my joy in music & joy in teaching. Comprehensive approach to music education: sight-reading, ear training, technique, repertoire. Youth students perform for each other, in recitals, in community; many participate in Certificate of Merit program. Adult students perform for each other. I am the past president of Contra Costa County, Performing Arts Society (Contra Costa) and the Berkeley Piano Club. As a member of Alameda County, I currently serve as a director, on the Maria Homen Memorial Library Committee and on the Investment Committee.
I perform on a regular basis as part of the Oak Hill Trio with Alice Lasky, vioin and Lin Barron, cello. I have also concertized for many years with Nancy Rude as a duo-pianist.
