Livermore, Calif. – Experience a special musical event when concert pianist Daniel Glover performs musical selections of Rachmaninoff in celebration of his 150th birthday, as well as waltzes, marches and more by equally well-known composers representing four periods of music: Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20th Century. Valley Concert Chorale hosts the event that is both entertaining and educational as Mr. Glover shares the history and analysis of each piece he performs. Event details are as follows:
Happy 150th Birthday, Rachmaninoff!
Saturday, February 18, 2023
7:30 pm
First Presbyterian Church
2020 Fifth St, Livermore
Mr. Glover’s program focuses on two themes. The first is a celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff. Mr. Glover will play his most famous composition Prelude in C-sharp Minor, also known as “The Bells of Moscow”, which was written when Rachmaninoff was just 19. Four additional pieces were published with it entitled Morceaux de fantaisie that are included in the first half of the program.
The second half of the program is a unique tribute by Franz Liszt to Franz Schubert, in the form of transcriptions of songs, dances and marches for piano solo. Schubert’s vast output included over 600 songs and 400 dances. Liszt was instrumental in exposing these great works to a larger audience. The program will be rounded out by a Bach Fantaisie in C minor, Haydn‘s Sonata No. 48 and Debussy‘s magisterial L’isle joyeuse (The Isle of Joy).
“Mr. Glover’s piano concerts are always a popular event,” says Bill Leach, VCC Board President. “He is an internationally-known concert pianist and has a great following around the world. We are so very fortunate to have him as the Chorale’s accompanist for so many years and we enjoy offering the community an opportunity to experience his great talent each year.”

The San Francisco Classical Voice said of Glover, “Brilliant, tender, whimsical, sparkling, Glover brought everything together into a well-balanced, evenly measured medium. Dazzling, golly can he play! I kept expecting smoke to emerge from the interior of the instrument, a flawless sense of Lisztian style incorporating its emotional depth.” The San Jose Mercury News said, “Glover is an incisive, exciting, and apparently tireless player…a natural for hyper-virtuosic challenge.” He has been hailed for his “extraordinary technique, analytical understanding and determined phrasing from the first to the last bar.” (Südhessische Post, Germany)
