Free and open to the public, this unique presentation by VCS Artistic Director Derek Tam marks the start of VCS's 103rd season.
More than 270 years after Johann Sebastian Bach laid down his pen for a work he would never hear in his lifetime, the so-called Mass in B minor continues to captivate listeners and performers alike. Join VCS Artistic Director Derek Tam for an exploration into Bach's motivations for compiling a Roman Catholic mass, himself a devout Lutheran, as well as the work's decades-long gestation.
An early music specialist, Derek will also discuss how interpretations of the Mass in B minor—and Bach's music in general—have evolved, and how we are still discovering more about this enigmatic masterpiece.
All are welcome to attend this free event. To register, visit www.vallejochoral.org/fall-2020/
