Lyric soprano Maria Valdes opens the Symphony’s final program of the season as soloist in Samuel Barber’s haunting masterpiece, Knoxville: Summer of 1915. Added soloists, three choirs and the full orchestra then join Valdes in Carl Orff’s exuberant cantata Carmina Burana, based on medieval poems and songs celebrating the sensual life.
