Violin virtuoso Anne Akiko Meyers returns to Symphony San Jose with a new commission from preeminent Mexican composer Arturo Marquez. Her request for a concerto based on Mariachi traditions reflected his father’s heritage, and so was born the fiery, soulful Fandango. Last summer’s premiere electrified the audience; Meyers calls it simply ‘a blockbuster.’ Bracketing it with Finzi’s lyrical Prelude and Brahms’ Symphony No. 4, offers a treat for Spring.
