The 2024-2025 season kicks off with a journey back to the “Roaring 20s.” Symphony San Jose invites attendees to walk the red carpet, celebrate with champagne, enjoy the dancers of New Ballet grooving to a jazz band in the lobby of the majestic California Theatre, and discover why classical music was at the center of The Jazz Age. Dress up in 1920s style and join us as we celebrate the Jazz Age together! Don't feel like dressing up? Just come as you are and enjoy the costume parade.
The centerpiece of the concert is George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue (which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2024.) At the piano will be Jon Nakamatsu, who will also perform Aaron Copland’s jazzy, blues-inspired Piano Concerto. The concert opens and closes with two of the most famous pieces in the orchestral repertoire: George Gershwin’s An American in Paris and Maurice Ravel’s Boléro.
Season-opening events include Music Notes, a pre-show discussion with fun facts, insights, and guest interviews! Free.
Tickets start at just $35 and for patrons ages under 17 year old, tickets are 50% off. For patrons under 25, a new season pass is offered called SoundCheck for 7 concerts for only $25. (Far less than the price of movie tickets.) It's a new program designed to bring young people to Symphony San Jose concerts more often.
