Former rock 'n roller brings Bach to the future

Mark Bruce plays Bach Oct. 15 in Healdsburg

Organist Mark Bruce brings an unusual background to his performances: After studying organ at Michigan State University, he played rock ’n roll in Hawaii and San Francisco. Since 1975 he has performed and directed in Bay Area churches, synagogues and theaters, as well as accompanying choruses, chamber groups and orchestras including the San Francisco Symphony. He has played organ at Davies Symphony Hall, the Museum of the Legion of Honor, Grace Cathedral and St. Mary’s Cathedral in San Francisco. He plays a program of Bach, Mendelssohn and Hindemith at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Healdsburg on Sunday, Oct. 15. The free concert begins at 5 p.m.
