The latest major work presented at SFJAZZ by trumpeter, composer, and former SFJAZZ Resident Artistic Director Blanchard, At War With Ourselves is an evening-length work for string quartet, chorus and spoken word, originally commissioned by new music's premier ensemble, the Kronos Quartet, who perform for these two exclusive nights. Part of the Hewlett 50 initiative, the commission opens a new chapter for the New Orleans trumpeter, a vaunted composer with an Academy Award nomination, six GRAMMYs and everal dozen film scores to his credit.
