Valley of the Moon

Presented by Santa Rosa Symphony

In Valley of the Moon, six-time Grammy winner Michael Daugherty creates a lush and complex symphonic soundscape, exploring how music can enhance our appreciation of the natural world and the growing fragility of an endangered ecosystem. Piercing beauty rises from the violin of Finnish virtuoso Elina Vähälä, like birds soaring to the treetops or a butterfly softly lighting in Korngold's romantic Violin Concerto, with delightful nods to his exquisite film scores. Strauss' irresistible Overture to Die Fledermaus and Debussy's pastoral Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun perfectly complement this tender and triumphant season finale.
