The Program:

Stacy Garrop: Inner Demons

Jon Tavener: The Protecting Veil

More Information:

Stacy Garrop: “Inner Demons” tells the story of a man who is losing his mind,

with the Appalachian folk hymn “The Wayfaring Stranger” serving as his obsession.

John Tavener: “The Protecting Veil” was inspired by the Orthodox Feast of the Protecting Veil of the Mother of God and uses the large range of the cello to capture, in the composer’s own words, “the cosmic power of the Mother of God”.

Cello soloist Evan Kahn is principal cellist of the San José and New Century Chamber Orchestras and the San Francisco Opera.
