“Anticipation of pleasure is, in itself, a very considerable pleasure.”
--David Hume, Philosopher of the English Enlightenment
“Anticipation” is the theme of the SF Mandolin Orchestra’s Spring season, featuring a May 7 concert in Palo Alto.
Anticipation and music go hand in hand. The anticipation of a child approaching their first music lesson. The hushed anticipation before the first notes of a concert. The anticipation of the final return to a memorable theme or the climax of a dramatic orchestral piece.
The Orchestra will perform pieces that inspire anticipation, expectation, hope, and the promise of musical enchantment, including music from:
· The Spring Sonata Opus 24 by Ludwig van Beethoven
· Nine Children’s Pieces by Erik Satie
· Ciacona Sopra un Canone (Chaconne on a canon) by Achille Bocus
· Moonlight Serenade by Glenn Miller
· And more!
The Beethoven piece will feature musical director Achille Bocus as soloist, and the Satie will feature both music and dramatic narration of the composer’s text.
Admission is $20 general, $15 student/senior, and free for children 12 and under. Tickets may be purchased at the door or at the SFMO website: https://sfmandolin.square.site.
