Join the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band, the Official Band of San Francisco, for a concert celebrating music about our beautiful City by the Bay and by composers who have called it home. Hear stunning and diverse musical selections from traditional marches, new music for concert band, jazz, show music, and even a musical depiction of a ride on the Powell-Hyde cable car in the 1890s. We'll share fascinating stories and facts along the way.
The program includes the world premiere of Cobra, a new piece composed by our Composer-in-Residence, Mattea Williams, who you can read more about here. It will feature the San Francisco premiere of Awakening, by Roger Zare also from our Black, Indigenous, Person of Color (BIPOC) Commission Program.
Several pieces in the program are long-lost treasures that have been brought back to life by the efforts of music historians and premiered by the Band.
