On February 9, 2020, Lieder Alive! presented a Winter gala concert by candlelight featuring Schubert’s Winterreise (Part I) with mezzo-soprano Kindra Scharich and pianist Jeffrey LaDeur. The Alexander String Quartet made a special guest appearance to perform Brahms’ Piano Quintet in F Minor with LaDeur, highlighting the musical and symbolic connections between Brahms’ instrumental masterpiece and Schubert’s transcendent song cycle.
Tonight, the festival is pleased to share for the first time selections from this concert, made even more poignant by the winter journey that awaited the world in the weeks following this performance.
