In the seventeenth century, the Dutch Republic witnessed its Golden Age. Amsterdam offered a safe haven and golden opportunities to all who were seeking political and religious freedom which brought many highly skilled crafts people to Amsterdam. While the art of painting, trade and science blossomed into a true Golden Age, Dutch music did not. So what kind of music was there? Meet the Orpheus of Amsterdam, Jan Pietszoon Sweelinck, take a stroll in the Utrechtse Dom garden listening to the music by Jonkheer Van Eyck, enjoy the music of Huygens (famous scientist and one of the most influential people in the Dutch Republic) and dance on the streets with Boerenlietjes. (Lecture, open to general audience, no cap)

The Baroque, Medieval/Renaissance, and Recorder Workshops will hold online sessions in May and June. Information is currently available for the May classes, and will be available in mid-May for the June classes. https://sfems.org/sfems-workshops/virtual-sessions/
