Explore compositions built on chorales and concerted in which voices and instruments sing the same text. With information on using straight tone on ensemble singing.
Martin Luther’s love of music inspired Reformation composers from the sixteenth through the eighteenth centuries to employ composition as a means of devotion and exegesis. This session will focus on compositions and in chamber and theatrical style, with a special focus on the motets of Johannes Veirdanck, who died at an early age due to the plague that raged during the Thirty Years War.
In this session, Julia Hunt Nielsen will join us for vocal warm-ups and proper straight tone singing. Special attention will be paid to the rhythmic and articulation patterns shared in vocal and instrumental parts.
