More Than One Of Me: Handling Polyphonic Music on the Baroque Violin
Among the many delights and challenges in the baroque violin repertoire is the playing of several parts simultaneously. In this class we will consider basic principles of polyphonic music on a violin and practice the gymnastics of both left and right hands needed to do so. Along the way we’ll think about the basics of playing double-stops and chords, and how those techniques are used and refined when playing several separate lines at once. We will put this into practice by playing together passages from works by composers such as Corelli, Telemann, and of course J.S. Bach.
