Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss II

Presented by San Francisco Conservatory of Music

View Die Fledermaus on SFCM's Site WHAT'S COOL ABOUT THIS EVENING: This performance is dedicated to the memory of Maestro Joel Revzen, who was to guest conduct this year’s spring opera but passed away due to COVID-19. When live performances were canceled last spring due to the pandemic, scenes were then performed during Tiny Dorm Concerts, but this evening will be the first time to produce the whole opera. This night is extra special: to invite you into the concert halls, select performances during the fall semester (like this one) include special intermission content, including virtual artist meet-and-greets, composer interviews, and mini master-classes with top faculty. ABOUT JOHANN STRAUSS II’S DIE FLEDERMAUS: Set in the late 1930s in Vienna before World War II, SFCM’s spring opera production of Die Fledermaus follows Gabriel von Eisenstein and his friend, Dr. Falke, through a high-class, champagne-fueled evening before Eisenstein must report to prison. With the world around them in turmoil, Falke persuades Eisenstein to attend a debaucherous soiree—hosted by the Russian Prince Orlofsky—with the complex but light-hearted plan to exact revenge on his friend. Performed in English with a translation by Marcie Stapp and dialogue by Jose Maria Condemi, SFCM’s energetic production features a colorful and dynamic Mondrian-inspired set. **Abridged version with English lyrics by Marcie Stapp and dialogue by Jose Maria Condemi ARTISTIC TEAM: Jose Maria Condemi*, director Curt Pajer*, conductor *faculty PERFORMERS: Gabriel von Eisenstein Alex Granito Rosalinde Emma McAllister Adele Natalie Harris Orlofsky Chen Holtzman Ida Nicole Koh Alfred Christopher Wall Dr. Falke Marcus Lonardo Dr. Blind Adam Lowe Frank Keaton Brown Scenic Design: Steven Kemp Lighting Design: Matthew Antaky Costume Design: Nikki Anderson-Joy Hair and Make-up Design: Heather Sterling Scenery built by Rooster Productions.
