Free Prometheus Symphony Concert

Presented by Prometheus Symphony

Conductor Eric Hansen

Join us for the last concert of the 2022-23 season, which we promise will send you home humming. Maybe even whooping and shouting. First, we're thrilled to present Ava Pakiam, winner of our Youth Concerto Competition, playing the beautifully fiery Violin Concerto No.2, by Sergei Prokofiev. You’ll be able to say you heard Ava here, before she burst onto the world stage! We close our season with Pictures from an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky (arranged by Maurice Ravel), which is about as BIG a piece as you can imagine. With booming brass, pounding percussion, soaring winds (and a bit of strings), each of the 10 musical vignettes represent a picture at an exhibit of paintings, sketches and architectural drawings by Mussorgsky’s friend Viktor Hartmann. The powerfully dramatic final vignette is based on a drawing for never-built city gates in Kyiv, Ukraine. Feel free to WHOOP after!

Concerts begin at 3pm, with a pre-concert talk by Music Director Eric Hansen at 2:40pm. Tickets are required; they’re free, plentiful and just a few clicks away at PrometheusSymphony.org Once again, we will be offering coffee/tea and our homemade baked goods in the courtyard at intermission. Please join us!

Masks are now optional but recommended inside the church. By entering the church, you are self-attesting that you are fully vaccinated. Our concerts are always family-friendly and accessible. Plan to arrive early, as parking can be difficult. The concert is free; donations gratefully accepted.
