This season we're celebrating musical connections, and especially your opportunity to re-connect in person with the electricity of live performance.
Our season opener remembers the life of orchestra member Hazel Cheilek, and explores connections she made during her musical career. Hazel commissioned the Baroque Suite by Adolphus Hailstork for her high school orchestra; this performance continues the chain of connections she started. Pianist Michael Mizrahi was mentored by Hazel as a young musician. Now a celebrated performer and a Professor of Music, he joins us as soloist in the monumental Piano Concerto no. 2 by Johannes Brahms. You'll also enjoy the World Premiere of Divided I by young American composer Alex Goodhart - his eclectic music connects romantic and modern classical style to alternative rock since the 1960s. Joaquin Turina's Danzas Fantasticas bring the sound and rhythm of Spain into the concert hall, reconnecting us with far away places through the power of music.
