With his seismic symphonies and emotional intensity, Mahler has amassed more than occasional listeners. He has amassed fans. While his work was largely ignored for more than 30 years after his death, recordings—Leonard Bernstein’s recordings in particular—helped fuel the Mahler renaissance of the 1960s. In Los Angeles, the composer was championed by the Mahler Society, which among other activities, hosted listening sessions in private homes.
Inspired by the Society’s gatherings, Mahler's influence on cinema, and spaces like Tokyo’s classic music oasis, the Lion Cafe, LA Phil Insight invites you to a collective listening experience as special guests from the world of film discuss and play their favorite Mahler recordings at the breathtaking Paramour Estate.
