Founded by percussionist Kahlil Cummings, the all-female ensemble Bloco Obini utilizes the healing spirit of the drum, “Ayan Agalu,” to educate, uplift, and empower community. The drum ensemble is made up of educators, nurses, dance instructors, political activists, students, mothers, and healers who perform Afro-Brazilian bloco-style drumming. The group’s message to children shares that they have infinite possibilities and hope—and affirm that we are all royalty who come from kings and queens.
Each LA Soundscapes family event features a pre-concert activity and participatory artmaking. Best for ages 3–11. These are daytime events and can get sunny. The Ford recently installed audience shade in the auditorium to help keep you cool, but don't forget your sunscreen and sun hats!
