Romantic Travels

Presented by Kensington Symphony Orchestra

Come join the KSO, Geoffrey Gallegos, Music Director & Conductor, on its exciting season finale concert journey as it concludes the celebration of Maestro Gallegos's 20th season as Music Director. Making stops in the British isles (Scotland), Spain, central Asia, and Paris, the concert features the highly regarded and wonderful Bay Area pianist Daniel Glover as soloist in Manuel deFalla's sumptuous and evocative Night's in the Gardens of Spain. The program opens with Felix Mendelssohn's vividly descriptive Hebrides Overture reflecting his many travels to the Western Scottish Isles and specifically Fingal's Cave. After intermission, Alexander Borodin's In the Steppes of Central Asia brings to life the interactions between the Russians and Asians in the Steppe lands of the Caucasus during the late 19th Century, and the concert and season come to exuberant, boisterous, and jazzy close with George Gershwin's An American in Paris, a “rhapsodic ballet,” which “depicts the impression of an American visitor in Paris, as he strolls about the city and listens to various street noises and absorbs the French atmosphere.”
