Buster Keaton's STEAMBOAT BILL JUNIOR (1928) -- score composed by Evan Losoya
Keaton plays William Canfield Jr., a young college student who meets his father, whom he hasn't seen in many years. Bill Sr., a hardened riverboat captain, is not thrilled to see his cityfied son, not realizing that he may be needed to save his steamboat from the clutches of his rich and powerful evil nemesis.
Known for his death-defying stunts and deadpan comic presence, Buster Keaton will seemingly defy the laws of physics throughout this adventure. The famous fight against a strong wind and life-threatening scenes involving collapsed buildings will surely amaze audiences, young and old!
Fleischer Studios's SUPERMAN: BULLETEERS (1942) -- score composed by Sammy Timberg
A band of criminals threatens to destroy the city with their unstoppable bullet rocketship. This looks like a job for SUPERMAN!
The Fleischer Brothers Studios, an animation company famous for the characters BETTY BOOP, POPEYE, and many other cutting-edge early cartoons, produced the animated short. The brothers set out to make the technicolor masterpieces after landing the most expensive contract for animated shorts up to that time. Paramount Studios awarded $5.4 million (2023 dollars) for nine 1-reel (approximately 8 minutes) cartoon episodes. There were 17 episodes, but the brothers left the project after the 9th installment. Nevertheless, what they created is heralded as some of the most innovative high-quality animation set to film.
