Symphony Spring Concert with Stephen Tavani

Presented by Golden State Youth Orchestra

Immerse yourself in an unforgettable evening of music featuring Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, a vivid symphonic suite inspired by the enchanting tales of One Thousand and One Nights. With its lush orchestration, evocative themes, and mesmerizing storytelling, Scheherazade brings to life the dramatic and fantastical world of the legendary storyteller.

The program also includes Sibelius' Violin Concerto in D minor, performed by the brilliant Stephen Tavani, Assistant Concertmaster of The Cleveland Orchestra. Known for its emotional depth and technical virtuosity, this concerto is a cornerstone of the violin repertoire. Tavani’s artistry, described by The New York Times as “the smoothness of frosted glass, adding a soft-focus filter to chiseled melodies,” promises to captivate audiences.

Tavani’s illustrious career includes performances with orchestras across the globe, collaborations with renowned musicians, and appearances at prestigious festivals such as Marlboro and Dresden, and the Sibelius International Violin Competition. He is a graduate of the Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles and received his Artist Diploma from the Cleveland Institute of Music. His impeccable technique and musicality will bring Sibelius’ masterpiece to life.
