Grammy-nominated Agave specializes in string chamber music of the seventeenth through twentieth centuries, originally (and here) played on gut strings. For this show, Aaron Westman and Anna Washburn, violins, Kati Kyme, viola, William Skeen, cello and Henry Lebedinsky, harpsichord, will explore string quartets by women composers from their recent album “AGAVE: In Her Hands”. We’ll hear extraordinary quartets by Fanny Hensel (née Mendelssohn), Croatian countess Dora Pejacevic, and Dutch-Jewish composer Rosy Wertheim, as well as a harpsichord concerto by the Prussian Princess Wilhelmine von Bayreuth. You can listen to examples of their wide range of repertoire here.
We’re happy to be hosting Agave as a Berkeley Festival & Exhibition Fringe concert.
