Community Music Day

Presented by Crowden Music Center

Community Music Day includes a String Instrument Petting Zoo, where little kids can touch and play violins and other string instruments.

Crowden Music Center’s annual free musical carnival for all ages, Community Music Day, will be presented in person and online on Saturday, March 20, 10am to 2pm!

Over the past two decades, Crowden has given thousands of Bay Area kids their first hands-on experiences with musical instruments at our ever-popular outreach event. On March 20, families can discover the joys of classical music either in person on Crowden’s campus or from the comfort of home at this year’s hybrid event.

Very First Concerts with the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra: “Strings Attached”

San Francisco Chamber Orchestra and Crowden encourage audiences to get up and dance in Very First Concerts, a classical series designed with the very youngest listeners in mind. Each 20-minute concert features a central theme, short selections, hands-on activities, and of course beautiful music. This year's Very First Concerts theme is "Strings Attached.” Join Ben Simon and five SFCO All-Star string players for this family-friendly exploration of the very special qualities of the most important instruments in an orchestra: the violin, viola, cello and double bass. We’ll set our strings in motion to produce wonderful sounds and beautiful music together. Repeat performances at 10:45am, 11:30am, and 12:15pm.

String Instrument Petting Zoo, Crowden Performances, Instrument Making, and more!

Crowden’s entire campus transforms into our gigantic Instrument Petting Zoo, where kids and adults alike explore all the different instruments in a symphony orchestra. This year, we plan a limited, strings-focused Instrument Petting Zoo, with increased supervision and sanitization to ensure everyone's safety. Make your own musical instruments, at home or on campus, with our individual kits. And don’t miss our Crowden student performances from 1 to 2pm!

Health and Safety

Proof of vaccination and booster or negative COVID test (within 72 hours) will be required at the door. All patrons over 2 years old must wear masks while on campus, including outdoors. Additionally, we highly encourage the use of high filtration N95/KN95 masks or procedural masks (either alone or with a cloth mask on top). Please avoid the use of cloth masks alone. Thank you for keeping our community safe and healthy!

How to watch online: Community Music Day 2022 will be presented on Crowden’s campus and on Crowden’s YouTube channel: youtube.com/crowdenmusiccenter or crowden.org/carnival.

How to attend in person: Reserve your free tickets for one of three event time-slots: 10am to 12pm, 11am to 1pm, or 12 to 2pm. No tickets necessary for children 2 years old and under. Tickets at bit.ly/2022CMD
