Discoveries and Revivals

Presented by Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra

On February 26 at 4:00 pm, the Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra will present “Discoveries and Revivals” under the baton of Music Director and Conductor, Geoffrey Gallegos.

The most obvious discovery on the program is an exciting work entitled Anniversary Overture written by composer Anthony Doherty, who remarkably, is an Antioch resident. Also on the program is Max Bruch’s opulently romantic and light-hearted and Double Concerto for Clarinet & Viola, which is rarely performed, so will be a new discovery for some listeners, and a revival for others. The concert will close with Howard Hanson’s lyrical, heroic and up-lifting Symphony No. 2, subtitled “Romantic.” It was written in 1930 and has been performed many times since then in traditional orchestral concert settings, but was also rediscovered, revived and reconfigured in the music for the films AlienET, and Boss Baby
