Brits & Brahms

Presented by Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra

Our April 15 concert has a hidden message of hope for all of us! Can you find it?

Here’s how this 3-part musical experience will unfold:

1️⃣ Gustav Holst’s “Brook Green Suite” starts us off with a youthful light-heartedness that highlights our starting point as children (and the comfortable ruts we settle into as grown-ups!).

2️⃣ Then, composer Sir Edward Elgar expresses post-war disillusionment in his “Cello Concerto in E Minor” and invites us into a cathartic exploration of life’s unpredictability. Featuring the brilliant artistry of Richard Andaya.

3️⃣ Finally, Brahms’s “Symphony No. 2 in D Major” artfully blends heartfelt optimism with more serious themes to paint a realistic picture of life’s ups and downs—while suggesting a healthy response to the challenges that come our way.

Did you see it? 👀

Here’s the message:

Hard times often call us to move beyond denial and despair and boldly embrace both the sunshine and the shadows—just like Brahms’s symphony beautifully integrates both the naive optimism and harsh realism of the first two pieces.

Bet you didn’t expect to find a therapy session in a Facebook post from a chamber orchestra!

👉 We’re presenting this captivating and cathartic experience on Saturday, April 15 at 2 pm at the historic El Campanil Theatre in downtown Antioch.
