“Hope. Fear. Regret. Betrayal. Despair. The unknown. These are the emotional forces and threads that weave through the story of Jacob Wrestling the Angel and through the three movement composition. It is an anxiety driven story that parallels the unknown of our times, the wrestling so many are engaged in as we search for meaning, sense, order. The brutal side of ourselves, driven by concern for our own well-being, wrestling with the side of ourselves aspiring towards generosity and hope. We seek a transformation like that of Jacob's whether we realize it or not.”
These are the words Pulitzer nominated composer Fredrick Kaufman used to describe this incredible work.
Join us on Sunday, Feb. 26th at 7:00pm at Congregation Kol Emeth, 4175 Manuela Ave., Palo Alto, for the inaugural West Coast performance of Pulitzer nominated composer Fredrick Kaufman’s work “Jacob Wrestling the Angel.” Featuring other solo works by Kaufman, Bach and Yseye, performed by internationally acclaimed musicians, Robert Davidovici (violin), Germán Marcano (cello), and SF Conservatory flutist, Victoria (Tori) Hauk, with live commentary by Fred Kaufman.
This evening will also be the first public release of Emmy-nominated filmmaker Zach Ben-Amots’ trailer for his upcoming documentary on this piece.
