Community Concerts at Epworth welcomes the Davis High School Baroque Ensemble in our first Young Performers Concert. Part of the school's award-winning orchestral program, the Baroque Ensemble has the distinction of being the first public high school orchestra to emphasize historically informed performance practice using period instruments. This enables students to access a rich and diverse wealth of orchestral literature.
The thirty-four member Ensemble has performed by invitation on the main stage of the Berkeley Baroque Festival and in historic cathedrals in several European cities. Donations will support their third European tour later this year.
The hour-long performance will be followed by an instrument demonstration and informal reception.
The theme of Community Concert's 5th Season is Building Bridges, a look at how classical music links unlikely people together in a shared intimate experience. It explores the many ways that music brings the world closer and breaks the boundaries that divide us. Our support of these talented young musicians is in keeping with this purpose.
Community Concerts at Epworth brings high quality performances of diverse styles and genres to our North Berkeley neighborhood in an accessible format. Performances are about one hour in length and are presented without charge so that all can have access to great music.
The concert series is a community service of Epworth United Methodist Church of Berkeley, a Reconciling Congregation committed to justice for all people.
