Born in modern day Lvov, Poland, Mr. Ax moved to Winnipeg, Canada with his family when he was a young boy. In 1974 he won the first Rubinstein Competition and is now well established as one of the world’s most distinguished pianists, regularly selling out concert halls in the top musical capitals. Mr. Ax has won seven Grammy Awards, both for solo CDs and for his collaborations with Yo Yo Ma. His recital at Herbst Theatre will be devoted to the music of Chopin.
