A musical revolution is brewing on the Monterey Peninsula – and it's happening at The Sand Box in Sand City and Hidden Valley Music Seminars! These unexpected stages for choral works are poised to transform into an enclave of harmony as the Central Coast Chamber Choir presents "Hymn To Love", a concert featuring transcendent, love-filled music by Johannes Brahms and Lili Boulanger.
Conducted by Daniel Henriks, recently praised for his stirring interpretation of I Cantori di Carmel’s sold-out performances of the Mozart Requiem, the evening promises to showcase impressionist masters and musical heroes of the Romantic era, featuring CCCC’s premiere as well as guest artists James Neiman and Noah Umamoto.
The heart of this performance lies not just in its premier as a new choir, but in its tribute to history and legacy. Johannes Brahms’ Liebeslieder Walzer Op. 52, a highly romantic set of lyrical and cheeky vocal works featuring two pianists at one piano, exude a feeling of light-hearted salon music of days past. Lili Boulanger, a luminary of the 19th century, steps onto the stage with compositions that echo her extraordinary lineage. As the sister of Nadia Boulanger – mentor to musical icons like Aaron Copland, Philip Glass and Astor Piazolla – Lili's music weaves a tapestry of emotion and highlights the soloist voices in the group through soaring, ethereal melodies.
Mark your calendars for these two special performances! "Hymn To Love" is more than an event – it's a statement, a celebration of love's enduring power in an ever-evolving world.
