Cracking The Surface – Looney/Michalak/Dimuzio

Presented by Center for New Music

Tonight we revisit the musical magic created at Fantasy Studios right before its' closure in 2018, playing in tribute to our dear friend and collaborator Tom Nunn.

“To error is human, to Skatch divine!” Thomas Skatchit

Scott Looney - Piano, Hyperpiano DSP - Scott R. Looney is interested in the creation and performance of compelling sounds across a broad spectrum of contemporary, improvised, and experimental music.. He has developed a flexible, expressive voice with electronics using Max/MSP which is as effective as his many piano textures are. He has played in numerous local and international festivals such as the Ulrichsberger Kaleidophon, San Francisco Electronic Music Festival and many others.

David Michalak – various instruments of Skatch - has been making films and performing since 1971. He plays lap steel guitar, phantom harp and various instruments of Skatch. He has founded T.D. Skatchit & Co., Reel Change, Ghost in the House and Dr. Bob, playing on and engineering many recordings. His films have been shown at the Ann Arbor Film Festival, Castro Theater, Cannes Film Festival, The Roxie Theater and many other less impressive venues.

Thomas Dimuzio - Buchla modular synth - a musician, composer, improviser, sound designer, mastering engineer, label proprietor, and music technologist residing in San Francisco, California. Dimuzio's music is like a sonic excursion transporting the listener to other worldly aural realms. He has earned a deserved reputation worldwide as an avant-garde sound artist in touch with the aesthetic pulse of time and technology.
