Charles Hutchins and Usufruct: Electon Wind

Presented by Center for New Music

Charles Celeste Hutchins joins us from London with his serpent and laptop for some computer-aided free improvisation. Usufruct will merge woodwinds with electronics to deconstruct, lovingly reassemble, and improvise around found texts and musical materials in the public domain.

In this rotation of the space time continuum, the linear perception of time is disrupted by the cyclical and the loop. A collage of re-use, remix, live sampled, old and new draws into a unity and oneness of time and experience. An expression of hope in a difficult time. Charles Hutchins, visiting from London will improvise with serpent and a reactive computer co-improviser. Local legends Usufruct (flutist/vocalist/improviser Polly Springhorn and computer musician Tim Walters) will deconstruct, lovingly reassemble, and improvise around found texts and musical materials in the public domain. Pieces to be served on 9/22 may or may not draw upon a Bashgali grammar, ransomware demands, predictive text, and tv-mangled closed-captions.
