Duo Apollon - soprano Anastasia Malliaras and classical guitarist Aaron Haas perform art song treasures of the 19th and 20th centuries by Schubert, Ravel, Castelnuovo-Tedesco and de Falla. This rare and special pairing of Anastasia's crystalline voice, with Aaron's soulful voice on guitar give rich new meaning to classical favorites.
Aaron graduated Summa Cum Laude from Skidmore and was nominated for the coveted Periclean Scholars Award for his senior recital, moving to Italy the following year to study with the Italian virtuoso, Lorenzo Micheli. After two years of study at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana, he moved back to the states to pursue his master's degree with Nicolo Spera at the University of Colorado at Boulder, followed by a summer attending the prestigious Accademia Chigiana in Siena studying with Oscar Ghiglia in the summer of 2015. Aaron then received a scholarship to study for his Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Southern California; he earned his PhD in 2019.
Anastasia is a versatile singer whose repertoire ranges from Baroque to Contemporary Opera, and Jazz to Musical Theater. Awards and accolades include being a finalist of the 2019 Zachary Competition, winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Los Angeles District in 2018, winner and LA Opera Encouragement Award recipient of the 2017 Center Stage Opera Vocal Competition, Encouragement Award from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions San Diego District in 2015, and winner of the 2014 Shirley Rabb Winston Vocal Competition. Anastasia is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she received a Bachelor's of Music in Vocal Performance, as well as a graduate of the University of Southern California where she received a Master's of Music in Vocal Arts.
