The Black Cedar Trio, the award-winning ensemble of wood flute, cello, and guitar brings their Local Composers in Public Libraries Series to the Santa Clara County Library District. The Saratoga Library, the Morgan Hill Library, and the Los Altos Library will each host this free public concert featuring Hungarian folk music, Johann Sebastian Bach’s Musical Offering, and a recent composition by Bay Area composer Durwynne Hsieh. Flutist Kris Palmer, guitarist Steven Lin, and cellist Isaac Pastor-Chermak will perform a one-hour program, followed by a question and answer session with the audience. Children of all ages are welcome and encouraged to attend these free public concerts. These three concerts are generously supported by the Santa Clara County Library District.
The Black Cedar Trio has garnered praise from San Francisco Classical Voice, Performing Arts Monterey Bay, the San Francisco Examiner, and Classical Guitar Magazine for their wide breadth of styles and inventive delivery. They bring old music new life with their uncommon combination of wood flute, cello, and guitar. And, they create new music that delights the masses through collaborations between Black Cedar and up and coming composers from around the globe. With grant awards from InterMusic SF and the Zellerbach Family Foundation, plus a critically acclaimed album of commissions, these three musicians brings their 5th Annual Local Composers in Public Libraries Series to the South Bay.
Flutist, Kris Palmer is a first prize winner in the Carmel Chamber Music Society Competition, second prize winner in the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition, and a Carnegie Hall Recital Debut Award winner with Artists International. Cellist, Isaac-Pastor Chermak is Assistant Principal Cellist with Opera San Jose, Associate Principal Cellist with Stockton Symphony, and Principal Cellist with Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony in Iowa.
