Barefoot Chamber Concerts (“an enterprise noted for both its quality and informality” – San Francisco Classical Voice) presents really good music in the right acoustic and without the formality of most classical music events.
Hallifax & Jeffrey, the Barefoot House Band, continue to mine the seam of English masterpieces; together with the fabulous guest keyboard wiz Andrew Canepa, they bring you a concert of English music for two bass viols and keyboards by Jenkins, Simpson, Locke, and other English 17th century stars. This concert was heard in a garage setting (for passing dog-walkers) for some time during the pandemic, and is now finally ready to be played in a civilized (and relatively warm) environment.
Music from before and after the (English) Civil War reflects a period (mid 17tt century) when music-making all but stopped, at least in court circles and in churches: the Parliamentarians chased the court into exile and the Puritans largely banned music in churches. The fun, however, continued during this period in private houses and on the continent, where Jenkins, Simpson, Locke and the like escaped to. Music by Hume and East round out the program.
Please check the Barefoot Chamber Concerts website for the Covid protocol near the date of the concert! Currently Barefoot Chamber Concerts requires masks, proof of vaccination, and maintaining 6’ distance between parties.
