Barefoot Chamber Concerts (“an enterprise noted for both its quality and informality” – San Francisco Classical Voice) presents really good music in the right acoustic and without the formality of most classical music events. Kids are very welcome if quiet, and admission is free if you’re under 18.
Immerse yourself in the Halloween season with the eerie and spooky sounds of the harpsichord. Spine-chilling chords and cackling runs bring alive a concert of things that go bump in the night, with black cats, monsters, and even compositions written by spirits. Featuring works by J.S. Bach, Domenico Scarlatti, Jean-Philippe Rameau, and many, almost entirely deceased, composers.
Barefoot is delighted to be able to welcome back Faythe Vollrath, a Californian native, who is well-known to Bay Area audiences, and last played on the Barefoot Series with her harpsichord duo Zweikampf in a memorable program in 2014. This time she returns as a soloist with an equally memorable program designed especially for Halloween. We are no great admirers of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ music or his opinions, but even he, infamously, noticed that harpsichords can sound thrillingly scary.
