Reimagine the word radical at its roots: fundamental, foundational, indispensable.
-
Hear the stories of heroes: We celebrate the legacies of César Chavez and Dolores Huerta, champions for social justice, in a brand new work by Chris Castro.
-
Experience radical truth-telling: Trevor Weston's "Truth Tones" honoring Dr. Martin Luther King weaves a tapestry of honesty and hope for treble voices and cello.
-
Feel the power of words: Stacy Garrop's poignant setting of Ruth Bader Ginsburg's last letter to her husband, adapted just for 21V, will touch your heart.
-
Find hope in unity: Jerod Impichchaachaaha' Tate's "We Are the Storm" reminds us that even in darkness, we can find strength and change together.
We are especially proud to present two world premieres in these concerts. Chris Castro’s "Two Partsongs" honors the sweeping legacies of Chavez and Huerta in a bilingual work combining the nostalgic “De Otoño” by Nicaraguan poet Rubén Darío with the powerful yearning of the Choir of Spirits in Goethe’s Faust. Stacy Garrop's poignant setting of Ruth Bader Ginsburg's last letter to her husband, adapted specially for 21V, will touch your heart. And, in the spirit of the essential, we frame our program with the four traditionally indispensable elements of air, fire, water and earth. Come share with 21V the indescribable honor of weaving a tapestry of 21st-century music featuring change makers past and present, and also be inspired by the radical change makers participating in our pre-concert panel discussion.
