Trombonist and music educator Miriam Snyder is based in San Francisco, CA, where she teaches and freelances throughout the Bay Area. Before relocating to San Francisco to pursue and complete her master’s degree in trombone performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Miriam earned her bachelor’s degree and performer’s certificate in trombone performance from the Eastman School of Music. Her primary teachers have included Dr. David Hamilton, Larry Zalkind, and Paul Welcomer.
Miriam currently teaches private lessons and freelances in several Bay Area orchestras including symphonies in Stockton, Santa Rosa, and Marin, among others. As a passionate solo and chamber musician, Miriam has placed in several competitions, with recent successes including being a finalist in the 2023 SFCM Winds, Brass, Percussion, and Harp Concerto Competition, runner-up in the 2022 SFCM Wind Ensemble Concerto Competition, placing first in the 2021 American Trombone Workshop’s Quartet Competition, and placing third in the 2017 MTNA National Senior Brass Competition, after placing first in the state and regional rounds. As an educator, Miriam maintains a private studio of piano and brass students, and holds positions as brass instructor at Music Mission San Francisco and GSYSO’s EIP Trombone Class. Miriam also served as the interim general and instrumental music teacher at Sunset Elementary for the 2023-24 school year. Throughout spring 2024, Miriam performed in elementary schools across San Francisco as an ensemble member of the San Francisco Symphony’s Adventures In Music program.
