The Century Club of California was founded in 1888 as a private women's club. In 1905 a Club House, with rooms designed by member Julia Morgan, was built on Franklin Street in San Francisco. The Club House survived the 1906 earthquake and fire and was used temporarily to house the California State Supreme Court.
The ballroom of the club is one of the hidden gems of San Francisco music venues. Enhanced by Julia Morgan in an early 20th Century renovation, the room seats 140 in comfortable and moveable seating, has superb acoustics, and boasts a 1950 Steinway D Concert Grand that was completely refurbished by the Callahan workshop in 2022.
