Young People's Chamber Orchestra

YPCO was founded in 1982 as a single all-strings orchestra for young musicians, and has expanded over the years to include three orchestral groups: the Preparatory Ensemble (strings only), the Chamber Orchestra (strings only) and the Senior Chamber Symphony (full orchestra). Our musicians come from all parts of the East Bay – Berkeley, Albany, Kensington, Oakland, Lafayette, Richmond, El Cerrito and San Pablo, and some from Marin, Santa Clara or San Francisco counties. YPCO’s mission is to provide a musical learning experience for young musicians in the community. As a teaching orchestra, YPCO promotes a non-competitive and cooperative philosophy, welcoming the skills and talents of all our members with equal warmth.
